Baby Bags and Pee Tents

I had a chance to escape great big Peterborough for a couple of days and I finally got down to some serious crafting. My little hideaway has one of the most handsome babies I know – so I wanted to make him a couple things to spit upon (not “up on” – I mean upon, this is a classy young gentleman here).

I pumped out a couple of baby sacks this afternoon.  Apparently they’re the latest in cool infant sleepwear.  Maybe not the latest, just the newest child related thing I know about.  Anyway, I digress.

The first sack was a simple blue and brown mix.  It was meant to be all blue, but I did a terrible cut the first time around and ran out of fabric.  The zipper doesn’t look terribly fantastic – but this little man can’t use words to hurt my soul quite yet.

The second sleep bag has a wee bit more geeky style.  You see, this baby is the son of an alpha nerd (possibly, two alpha nerds – but I’m not trying to offend friends here).  I’ve had some vintage Star Wars sheets kicking around for a while, being saved for a project just like this.  Without further ado – here is the most geekish sleep sack in town.

The final baby related craft for today was a few little pee tents.  I’m not going to bother to discuss the finer points of pee tents – but basically it saves you from getting a face full of pee when you’re changing your son’s diaper.

By the by, for all you squeamish readers, this tent is fresh as can be.  I promise – totally unused at the time of picture.

This Books Cover…

is more than a little deceiving.  If only you knew what it took to make this thing fit me.

I’ve been playing around with clothing a little more recently and I thought I’d give applique a try.  I’ve done lots of reverse applique and patchwork in the past, but nothing quite like this.

It’s all a relatively simple pattern, but I like it because it reminds me of peacock feathers.  Maybe when I grow up I can be a beautiful boy peacock; all proud and boastful.  Only time will tell….

It’s (Fraternal) Twins!

These babies were born (or finished – semantics really) just hours apart!

I had been working on both of these quilts simultaneously, so it makes sense that I would finish them up in one craft heavy evening.

The white, blue and tangerine quilt was created using a collection of vintage fabrics.  The white chenille was originally one giant bed spread, but due to some minor stains it had lost a great deal of it’s appeal.  The orange and blue patterned fabrics are also from vintage bedding.  This colour scheme is one of my favourites right now and it’s commonly featured as a theme on Etsy.

The red and white quilt was featured on this blog in the past.  Back then it was much wider than the actual finished piece.  That quilt was made using vintage and recycled fabrics like thin cordouroy, red polka dot napkins and silkscreened bed sheets.  I even carved a little stamp to add some character to some of the big red dots throughout the quilt top.

I will be adding both of these quilts to my Etsy, but they may be for sale in a brick and morter location eventually.  I just hope that someday they find a home where they’re loved.
