tutorial: maternity pants

Grosgrain has done it again!  I’m really digging this tutorial on how to change a regular pair of pants into a stylish pair of maternity pants.  I can’t wait to get some free time and try it out for myself.  My results won’t be quite as pretty because I’m lacking in the serger department, but I’m hoping for a functional pair of that are pretty on the outside.

Have a look-see at the tutorial by clicking the image below.

This Books Cover…

is more than a little deceiving.  If only you knew what it took to make this thing fit me.

I’ve been playing around with clothing a little more recently and I thought I’d give applique a try.  I’ve done lots of reverse applique and patchwork in the past, but nothing quite like this.

It’s all a relatively simple pattern, but I like it because it reminds me of peacock feathers.  Maybe when I grow up I can be a beautiful boy peacock; all proud and boastful.  Only time will tell….

A Thrifty Weekend

I’m back in Stirling for the weekend and I’ll be able to hit up my usual thrifty spots.  This afternoon I visited two of my favourites in Campbellford.  After $47 I have a trunk full of unbelievable finds!  The Salvation Army was having a bag sale and I must have plucked every vintage piece they had.  There were some items in there that I’d been waiting on for months now.  Thank goodness no one in Campbellford cares for vintage (or at least none of the people that shop the Sally Ann).  I also raided the Busy Bee which was fantastic as ever.  Lots of great vintage clothing, craft supplies, fabrics, books and more!  I could spend a full day in there and not be tired of it.

Tomorrow I’ll pay a visit to Saint Vincent du Paul in Belleville.  This store has to be in my top 5 favourite second hand shops.  The prices are so fair and the staff are great.  Plus, they have a huge selection of crafty bits and pieces as well as stacks of books.

I’m just in the process of washing out some of my new clothing (some will have to wait for the cleaners).  I’ll share some of my finds once I get them photographed.

I’ve ravaged a couple of containers of clothing that I’ve had for a while and turned them into something a little more interesting.

I’m thinking that I will be adding these to my site, but I have to take some time to consider pricing and such.  These may also show up on Etsy.

Here are some of the pieces that I really dig.  Soon I’ll be sharing some of the men’s pieces that I’ve been working on.

Done!

I’m so happy to say that after lots and lots (and lots and lots) of work, the Recycled Clothing Fashion Show was a great success.  Even though there was lots of stress and uncertainty (on my part), it was worth it.

The Silent Auction for The Salvation Army was fairly successful as well.  I had been a bit concerned that I wouldn’t get any bids because I didn’t think people would be coming with shopping on their minds.  However, we managed to sell almost every outfit for at least the minimum bid of $10.  The one outfit that didn’t sell wasn’t crafted at all so I understand why it didn’t go flying off the rack.

Here’s some action shots from my portion of the show (representing The Salvation Army):

Almost There…

I’ve been working away on stuff for the Recycled Clothing Fashion Show.  Thus far I have 6 (somewhat) beautiful and casual outfits fashioned from thrifted clothing.

I’ll be showing off pictures soon.

I’ve also been working hard on a line of yoga pants made from second hand men’s t-shirts.  They’re pretty darn comfortable, and cute to boot!

Pictures will come soon (I promise!).
