latest obsession: regretsy

This is the blog that everyone wanted but was too afraid to create!

Regretsy is terribly entertaining site and somehow a wonderful marketing tool for some of Etsy’s stranger handmade goods.  Already generating huge online buzz, this site draws tonnes of traffic and treats them to quick doses of Helen Killer’s undeniable wit.

Like it or not, this site will be around for a while.  But if you can take a little taunting you may sell that denture key chain in spite of the numerous spelling and grammatical errors in your item description (oh, and the item itself).

Check Regretsy on a regular basis.  It’s already pulled me out of a crappy mood several times in its short life span.

Baby Bags and Pee Tents

On January 23, 2009, in Uncategorized, by mygirlthursday

I had a chance to escape great big Peterborough for a couple of days and I finally got down to some serious crafting. My little hideaway has one of the most handsome babies I know – so I wanted to make him a couple things to spit upon (not “up on” – I mean upon, this is a classy young gentleman here).

I pumped out a couple of baby sacks this afternoon.  Apparently they’re the latest in cool infant sleepwear.  Maybe not the latest, just the newest child related thing I know about.  Anyway, I digress.

The first sack was a simple blue and brown mix.  It was meant to be all blue, but I did a terrible cut the first time around and ran out of fabric.  The zipper doesn’t look terribly fantastic – but this little man can’t use words to hurt my soul quite yet.

The second sleep bag has a wee bit more geeky style.  You see, this baby is the son of an alpha nerd (possibly, two alpha nerds – but I’m not trying to offend friends here).  I’ve had some vintage Star Wars sheets kicking around for a while, being saved for a project just like this.  Without further ado – here is the most geekish sleep sack in town.

The final baby related craft for today was a few little pee tents.  I’m not going to bother to discuss the finer points of pee tents – but basically it saves you from getting a face full of pee when you’re changing your son’s diaper.

By the by, for all you squeamish readers, this tent is fresh as can be.  I promise – totally unused at the time of picture.

If you subscribe to the Etsy channel on YouTube then you’ve probably seen this already.  If not, you should definitely watch this video.  It just shows that there’s always more to learn.  My crafting to do list will never ever end…

It Happened!

What am I doing here?  It’s 5:30 am and I’m still up.  Tonight the season finale of Project Runway 5 aired.  I don’t get the channel though.  So what did I decide to do?  Stay awake until it showed up on YouTube!?!

Am I crazy?  I think I must be?  But I want Leanne to win SO badly!  And guess whhhhaaaat?  SHE DID IT!  And thank goodness.  She busted butt to get it.  Her work was/is stunning!  And she looked wasted away (not a bad thing); you know she had slaved for this collection!

Way to go LEANNE!

Stash Busting

I just finished up a pretty extensive overhaul of my craft room.  My October Resin Workshop is fast approaching, so I thought it was time that I should be able to walk around in that space.

While I was tidying up the joint I found some more lampwork pendants that I need to liquidate!  I bought all of these during my trip to Italy a year and so ago.  I took some time tonight, did some photos and I’ve added them to my Etsy.  Check em out!

All Kinds of Resin Up in Here!

On September 28, 2008, in Uncategorized, by mygirlthursday

Yesterday I got my order of resin in from Currys.  I was so happy because it’s nearly impossible to find epoxy resin here in Peterborough.  Anyway, I got four packages that came out to be a half a gallon of the good stuff.  After last night I only have half of it left.  After tonight I will probably have none.  Is this an addiction?  What is resin doing to me?  It’s just WAY too much fun.

Anyway, here’s what my table looked like last night.  I’m just about to bust them out of their molds now.

I’ll share more when I have them all finished up!

Now for the Buckles

I’ve got some new belt buckles too!  These are especially fun to make because I get to add captions to vintage images.

It’s great to take these to shows and meet people that think they’re funny.  I always tell my husband I’m hillarious, but he doesn’t believe me.  At least craft shows give me a chance to meet people I agree with.

Check out my Etsy for more information on these buckles!

Extra Pulp

I’ve got some new keychains all soldered up and ready to go!  I found some really great illustrations and I thought they’d be PERFECT for my microscope slide keychains.

I adore vintage illustrations from pulp novels and sources.  I’m planning on making some more with similar illustrations and others with pin-up girls.  Serious classiness at its finest.

Forget Kenley…I’m a Leanimal!

On September 13, 2008, in Uncategorized, by mygirlthursday

I have to say that I’m totally put off of Kenley.  After these past few shows I’ve decided that I quit her team.

Normally you don’t get to know the person behind the designs, so this whole process of getting to know the designer is irregular.  But I guess that after all that blabbing, I’m trying to say is that I’m not a fan of Kenley as a person and that’s effecting how I’m feeling about her work.  I’m bothered by the fact that she seems SO sure of her designs.  Although I can appreciate a healthy sense of confidence, I think one must be willing to take a critical eye to their own work.  Otherwise how the heck do you grow as an artist or person or friend or partner?

And besides that, her designs weren’t all that she thought they were.  Kenley the boobs WERE drooping!  Heidi wasn’t talking nonsense.  The outfit was not a clear reflection of an Aquarius.  You’re nuts.

Forget it all!  I’m a Leanimal from now on.  Her designs are innovative yet simple.  She’s adorable and not terribly catty.  She’s a brilliant designer, but aware of when she makes a mistake.  She can appreciate critisism and grow from it.  Did I mention that she’s brilliant?  I adore her.  Plus she’s an Etsian.  What more can I say?  Maybe that I love her work.  I want her work all over me (creepy right – but it’s clothes).
