I finally have something worth posting on my YouTube channel (how exciting is that?!).

Teresa Kaszube stopped by Buttercup & Co this morning to film a couple pieces for the local Newswatch program.  During the first segement she chats with Caren about the ever blooming handmade movement.   After that she and I discuss workshops, my crafts and some of the reasons so many are living the DIY lifestyle.

Check out both pieces below!

Slept in.

Made lots of journals.

Petted cats (really, is that how you say it?).

Buffed some buckles.

Found out a new Tori album is coming soon!! (This is perfect – my lady is coming back to me)

This is bliss, friends.  Pure, sweet, ginger bliss.

This Books Cover…

is more than a little deceiving.  If only you knew what it took to make this thing fit me.

I’ve been playing around with clothing a little more recently and I thought I’d give applique a try.  I’ve done lots of reverse applique and patchwork in the past, but nothing quite like this.

It’s all a relatively simple pattern, but I like it because it reminds me of peacock feathers.  Maybe when I grow up I can be a beautiful boy peacock; all proud and boastful.  Only time will tell….

I just finished up a pretty extensive overhaul of my craft room.  My October Resin Workshop is fast approaching, so I thought it was time that I should be able to walk around in that space.

While I was tidying up the joint I found some more lampwork pendants that I need to liquidate!  I bought all of these during my trip to Italy a year and so ago.  I took some time tonight, did some photos and I’ve added them to my Etsy.  Check em out!

Before Puces Pop and stopping off in Kingston, I had a lot more of these belt buckles!  Parting is such sweet - forget it, parting is just fine!  I’m hoping they all find happy new homes.

Here’s a peek at the newest buckles being added to my Etsy.

It’s (Fraternal) Twins!

These babies were born (or finished – semantics really) just hours apart!

I had been working on both of these quilts simultaneously, so it makes sense that I would finish them up in one craft heavy evening.

The white, blue and tangerine quilt was created using a collection of vintage fabrics.  The white chenille was originally one giant bed spread, but due to some minor stains it had lost a great deal of it’s appeal.  The orange and blue patterned fabrics are also from vintage bedding.  This colour scheme is one of my favourites right now and it’s commonly featured as a theme on Etsy.

The red and white quilt was featured on this blog in the past.  Back then it was much wider than the actual finished piece.  That quilt was made using vintage and recycled fabrics like thin cordouroy, red polka dot napkins and silkscreened bed sheets.  I even carved a little stamp to add some character to some of the big red dots throughout the quilt top.

I will be adding both of these quilts to my Etsy, but they may be for sale in a brick and morter location eventually.  I just hope that someday they find a home where they’re loved.

A Thrifty Weekend

I’m back in Stirling for the weekend and I’ll be able to hit up my usual thrifty spots.  This afternoon I visited two of my favourites in Campbellford.  After $47 I have a trunk full of unbelievable finds!  The Salvation Army was having a bag sale and I must have plucked every vintage piece they had.  There were some items in there that I’d been waiting on for months now.  Thank goodness no one in Campbellford cares for vintage (or at least none of the people that shop the Sally Ann).  I also raided the Busy Bee which was fantastic as ever.  Lots of great vintage clothing, craft supplies, fabrics, books and more!  I could spend a full day in there and not be tired of it.

Tomorrow I’ll pay a visit to Saint Vincent du Paul in Belleville.  This store has to be in my top 5 favourite second hand shops.  The prices are so fair and the staff are great.  Plus, they have a huge selection of crafty bits and pieces as well as stacks of books.

I’m just in the process of washing out some of my new clothing (some will have to wait for the cleaners).  I’ll share some of my finds once I get them photographed.

Nighty night!

My Weekend

I’m finally home after a long weekend of crafting, travelling and selling.  As I mentioned before, I took part in the annual Women’s Art Festival in Kingston, Ontario.  Sunday was a beautiful day.  It started off sunny with a nice light breeze, but the humidity quickly amped itself up and I was sweating buckets!  I had lots of people stop by to say hello and check out my new wares.  On Friday and Saturday I made a new line of fridge magnets (I’ll tell you more about them later) and I got some positive feedback on those.  Lots of my resin belt buckles found happy new homes and I’m pleased with that.

I spent most of Monday lost.  My doctor relocated her office and it’s not listed at all.  At one point I was on the phone with 411 and unknowingly sitting about 7 steps away from her office.  Thank goodness I started looking for her office with at least an hour to spare.  I found her just time time.  Just in time to sit for another hour in the waiting room.  A little annoying, but such is life at the end of the business day.

I also added to my injuries list while I was away.  I had a 6am fall down the stairs while I was carrying a tub of crafts.  The silver lining is that it woke me up (or shook me up) just in time for my hour long drive to the art festival.  I have a pretty (painful) carpet burn up my forarm and on my left knee.  Even tonight I slipped and fell in my craft room.  If standing on my two feet wasn’t so convinient I would stop it at this point.

Earlier today I got to take a trip to one of my favourite thrift stores in the world.  I bought a cart full of clothing, books, knick knacks and fabric for just over $80.  My grandmother thinks my husband is going to divorce me for bring home so much “junk.”  She’s the one that trained me to thrift store shop – she should know better than to call it junk.  A shameful word indeed.

I’ll spend tonight and tomorrow photographing some of my new vintage finds.  I’ll be adding them to my Etsy throughout the week.  Check back for updates!
