Here are a shot of the project I was working on during IBTOY’s sew-along.  I’m planning on making it into a quilt block that will inspire and spawn a whole bunch of other blocks.

The embroidery reads “since always in your dreams.”  Does anyone know what thats from?

wip: log cabin picture quilt

Why?  Why has it taken me so long to figure out how to piece a log cabin quilt block?  I’ve loved it for years and I’ve collected fabric scraps just as long.  But the day has finally come – I’ve figured it out and this pattern has been mastered.  It’s totally simple and such a great technique for beginning quilters.  You can only imagine how many more quilts will follow in a similar fashion.

Okay, you can probably tell that I’m pretty excited about this new skill.  I wanted to take a second to share my newest WIP and my first log cabin quilt.

I blew the budget on photo fabric because this is a very special project.  I scavenged my grandmother’s photo albums and selected 7 of my favourite snapshots.

This week I managed to print my fabric, cut my fabric strips and construct the quilt blocks.  Now I just have to find the perfect connecting fabric and I’m off to the races.  Have a look see at my progress so far!

wip & fp: bad bird embroidery

I freakin’ love Bad Bird’s (aka Andrea Zuill) embroidery patterns.  Yes, her illustrations and fibre art are amazing, but there’s just something I adore so much about the embroidery patterns.

I just finished up work on on the mermaid that was offered as the August 2008 free pattern on her blog.  She’s an adorable little sea creature.  Now I just have to decide what I’m going to do with her.  Diaper bag?  Quilt?  Appliqued to the back of a jacket?  I just can’t figure it out quite yet.

Next up on the Bad Bird roster I’ll be taking a stab at Lottie the Dog Face Girl and Siamese Sisters Rose and Daisy.  I picked up these patterns for my next arts and craft project.

I found these really cute vintage stools, but they are in desperate need of new upholstering.  How cute are these going to look on pieces of matching furniture?  I’m really excited to show off a finished product.

Gotto go and get my stitch on!

Thought I’d share some quick shots of one of the many pieces I’ve been working on.  I’ve been hoarding quite a stash of vintage kids prints.  They’re one of the things that I have never been able to leave behind at thrift shops and yard sales.  Well, finally the time has come that I have the gusto to cut them up and make something new.

The front of the quilt is made entirely with vintage fabrics.  The backing is an adorable piece of fabric I picked up from the lovely people at Reprot Depot at last years Puces Pop.  As always I’ve used a a piece of flanelette sheet for the batting.

I just need to do a bit more machine quilting and add the final pieces of bias tape (super wide, super handmade).  I can’t wait to see it hanging over the edge of the crib.

A Sign of Prints to Come…

I’ve stripped out a bunch of my old screens, destapled them and installed a whole new screen.  They’ve been coated in pretty green chemicals and I’m just waiting for them to dry.  Hopefully I’ll have some time tomorrow afternoon to burn in the new images.

Here’s a peek of whats to come…

My apartment is in full chaos.  I’m looking forward to next week when I can clean up this mess.

I still have tonnes of work to finish up, but until it’s done I thought I’d give you a couple work in progress shots.  I would have liked some prettier photos, but I don’t have time for that.

Enjoy!

All Kinds of Resin Up in Here!

On September 28, 2008, in Uncategorized, by mygirlthursday

Yesterday I got my order of resin in from Currys.  I was so happy because it’s nearly impossible to find epoxy resin here in Peterborough.  Anyway, I got four packages that came out to be a half a gallon of the good stuff.  After last night I only have half of it left.  After tonight I will probably have none.  Is this an addiction?  What is resin doing to me?  It’s just WAY too much fun.

Anyway, here’s what my table looked like last night.  I’m just about to bust them out of their molds now.

I’ll share more when I have them all finished up!
